Abstract After coal mining, mining fissures develop, which may lead to an overlying aquifer and water inrush. Objectively accurately evaluating predicting the abundance of bottom Cenozoic are great significance for ensuring safe shallow seams protection resources. The richness evaluation index data has characteristics high dimensionality, nonlinearity, nonnormal distribution, therefore, results often cannot objectively truly reflect aquifers. To overcome these problems, a method is proposed that based on projection pursuit model. Taking in Xutuan mine Huaibei area, China, as research object, system constructed law sedimentary controlling groundwater. This consists four factors including thickness, sand gravel layer number layer, ratio content total content. comprehensive introduced aquifer. used optimize solve optimal direction, value calculated according direction. size then basis characterizing degree study area. Moreover, Jenks natural breaks classification grade evaluate abundance. Finally, verified by unit inflow distribution known inrush points. show it feasible employ model aquifers, can be obtained. projects high-dimensional onto one-dimensional subspace analysis finds direction identify greatest extent. Furthermore, this avoids interferences subjectivity human improves scientificity accuracy results. provides new concept involving multiple factors.
